Electric Water Heater Reimbursement Program

Provisions:

• MEC will reimburse $125.00 to a member that replaces a defective electric water heater with another electric water heater. The reimbursement will be given only if the defective water heater fails to the degree that repairs are not practical.
• MEC will reimburse $175.00 to a member that replaces a gas water heater with an electric water heater ($200.00 when installing a Marathon heater).
• MEC will reimburse $175.00 to a member that installs an electric water heater in a new dwelling ($200.00 when installing a Marathon heater). An example would be if a member constructed a new home.
• MEC will give an additional $25.00 reimbursement if the member purchases the electric water heater (to replace an existing water heater) from a dealer within MEC's service area.
• The reimbursement amount shall never exceed the purchase amount.
• Minimum tank size must be 40 gallons.
• Minimum tank warranty of 8 years.
• Water heater must be an efficient model with a minimum R value of 16 and/or a minimum energy factor of .88.
• Water heater must be the primary source of hot water.
• Residence must be occupied the year round. Summer or lake home would not qualify.
• Consideration will be given to other installations - such as a dairy operation.
• Member must contact Member Services to obtain qualifying form before purchase.
• MEC will not be installing the water heaters. The member must purchase from a dealer of their choice.
• MEC expressly disclaims any and all warranties on the water heaters.
• MEC has the option of entering the consumer's premises to check the water heater specifications and to verify that the water heater is installed before reimbursement is paid.
